Interview Assessment Notes

1.       Could you introduce yourself and tell us about you? Your current / recent jobs and employers? Previous companies and jobs?

He is a Mechanical Engineer turned Senior Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist with over 10 years of experience spanning automotive engineering, technical documentation, engineering publications, and documentation quality control. He began his career as a Vendor Development Engineer in the automotive industry, supporting component development and assembly programs for leading manufacturers such as XXXX, XXXX Auto, and tier suppliers, gaining strong expertise in engineering systems, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle management. He later transitioned into technical writing, where he has developed user manuals, parts catalogs, maintenance manuals, installation guides, and service documentation for clients including John Deere, Tata Motors, and various industrial equipment manufacturers. Currently based in Shenzhen, he works as part of a global documentation team, supporting new product introductions and engineering documentation initiatives. His responsibilities include product documentation, end-user manuals, equipment documentation, service manuals, and maintenance documentation, alongside documentation quality and compliance through technical reviews, validation, and safety information management. He collaborates closely with engineering teams, product managers, R&D groups, and product development teams to ensure documentation aligns with product functionality and regional regulatory requirements.

2.       What skill(s) / experience would you self-describe as strongest or specialist in?

His strongest expertise lies in Technical Documentation, Mechanical Engineering Documentation, Equipment Manuals, Safety Documentation, and Quality Review. A major strength is his ability to combine hands-on engineering knowledge with technical writing expertise, allowing him to identify documentation gaps that non-engineering writers often miss.

3.       Do you have the list of key criteria according to the client’s requirements?

His work emphasizes technical validation and documentation completeness, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and usability by conducting quality reviews and verifying supplier information directly with engineering teams. One of his most significant achievements was during the documentation of a thermal-control product line for data-center environments, where he identified missing safety instructions and hazard-related content. He escalated concerns to engineering teams, collaborated with stakeholders, and applied his engineering knowledge to draft and improve safety documentation, ensuring compliance with IEC, UL, and IEEE standards prior to release. He is highly experienced in safety warnings, hazard communication, and product label verification, ensuring documentation aligns with physical product markings and operational risks. In addition, he develops technical training modules, delivers classroom sessions, and provides product knowledge enablement for staff, adapting content for both customer-facing audiences and internal technical teams.
