Interview Assessment Notes

1.       Could you introduce yourself and tell us about you? Your current / recent jobs and employers? Previous companies and jobs?

He is a Finance leader with 13+ years’ experience advising and leading financial strategy across enterprises with asset bases exceeding AUD 250M+ and exposure to businesses with AUD 1B+ turnover. Currently, he is a Director of Finance / CFO Advisory at XXXX, where he serves as a fractional and virtual CFO for businesses with significant asset bases, providing the strategic “North Star” for multi-entity structures and international portfolios. He leads the design of complex funding models, ensuring that large-scale developments possess the liquidity and capital allocation required to reach completion. He develops high-fidelity financial models for developments exceeding AUD 75M to 100M+, advising boards on the technical viability and risk-adjusted returns of their projects. And he delivered approximately 8% in cost savings across AUD 100M+ portfolios by implementing lean financial optimization and cash flow management initiatives. Before this, he was at XXXX as a Business Services Supervisor, where he directed the financial oversight for a diverse portfolio of 100+ SMEs and High-Net-Worth (HNW) clients, acting as a strategic partner to executive teams during periods of rapid transformation. He drove a 15% revenue increase for clients through rigorous restructuring and performance-driven strategic planning. He reduced reporting cycle times by 20% by automating compliance workflows and optimizing end-to-end financial leadership processes. And he managed full compliance with ATO, IFRS, and Australian regulatory frameworks for businesses with turnover exceeding AUD 40M. Over the last 13 years, he has successfully transitioned from general accounting into a specialist focus on Property Portfolio Development and Strategic Board-Level Advisory.

2.       What skill(s) / experience would you self-describe as strongest or specialist in?

Strongest skills would be strategizing, planning, as well as creating an algorithm of networks, essentially looking beyond numbers, that’s where his core competency lies. While a general accountant focuses on reporting, he builds dynamic models that act as an algorithm for decision-making. He identifies the interconnected “networks” of cash flow, debt, and equity to predict project feasibility. He is expert at taking traditional reporting artifacts and stress-testing them against market volatility and operational constraints, ensuring that feasibility studies translate into actual profitability. And he utilizes his modeling depth to architect funding structures for large-scale property developments, balancing risk-weighted returns with long-term capital stability. Moreover, he provides chairmen and executives with the data-driven confidence needed to pull the trigger on major investments, restructures, or capital allocations. He leads the “big picture” financial strategy for multi-entity structures, ensuring that every subsidiary and asset is aligned with the parent company’s growth objectives. And he successfully operates at the Finance Director level for investment-heavy businesses, providing high-stakes strategic oversight that moves beyond simple compliance. Furthermore, he is highly skilled in the placement of capital across diverse portfolios, ensuring that liquidity is optimized across AUD 75M–100M+ asset bases. He combines his Chartered Accountant (CA) rigor with advanced reporting frameworks to ensure that growth is never achieved at the expense of fiscal discipline or regulatory compliance.
